Hearing solutions

The following symptoms are key signs of hearing loss. If you find some, or all, apply to you, we’d recommend getting in touch for professional care as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment slow the associated effects of hearing loss and its related conditions.

• Difficulty hearing other people clearly, or misunderstanding what they say – especially in noisy places.
• Starting to avoid going to noisy places, because it has become too difficult to try and hear what is going on.
• Feeling depressed or isolated as a result of avoiding situations where hearing is a challenge.
• Listening to music or watching TV at a volume others find excessively loud.
• Having to concentrate to a tiring or stressful degree, in order to hear what other people are saying.

Many symptoms of hearing loss can be greatly improved by a hearing aid or other treatment option.

It’s common to have our teeth and eyes checked regularly, but what about our hearing? Everyone over the age of 55 should arrange a hearing test once a year, or more urgently if there are signs of hearing deterioration. We offer a number of options, covering the entire gamut of potential issues.

Ear Health Check

If you’ve been experiencing symptoms such as earache, itchiness or a blocked feeling in your ears, we offer a free 15-minute Ear Health Check, to assess what’s wrong. We’ll check the overall health of your ears, ear canals and eardrum and check for earwax. Following the results of this check, you may wish to arrange an additional appointment to resolve or investigate further, or we can advise accordingly.

Hearing Screening

We offer free Hearing Screening, to detect any signs of hearing loss. This basic hearing test will be able to identify if your hearing is normal, or if you are indeed experiencing some degree of degradation.

Full Diagnostic Assessment

The Full Diagnostic Assessment (£80) will thoroughly assess all the components of your hearing pathway, from your outer ear, through your middle ear and your cochlear, then into the auditory processing centre of your brain.  Tests are non-obtrusive, pain-free, and performed in a sound-treated room – so there is still no need for you to enter a small, claustrophobic booth.

Earwax Removal

If you’re finding earwax to be problematic, following an inspection, we can remove it. Our audiologists are ENT-trained to offer safe, endoscopic earwax treatments for adults and children. The techniques are as gentle as they are effective, so there’s no need to worry. Once the wax is removed, there is often instant relief from symptoms.

We use professional ear-clearing equipment, such as a Video otoscope, to clear earwax. The consistency of your earwax will determine which of the procedures below we will use. This includes the removal of ear wax from one or both ears and a hearing screening.

Microsuction

Our state-of-the-art video otoscopy equipment is used to directly visualise the earwax whilst it is being removed. Removal is done by way of gentle suction, with a low-pressure suction machine and fine, sterile probe.

Ear irrigation

Ear irrigation replaces the old-fashioned technique of ear syringing, using an irrigation device to remove earwax. With irrigation, we never want to squirt water directly into the ear, as is the case with syringing. The irrigation introduces water into the ear via a specially adapted earpiece, allowing the water to flush the wax out safely.

Earwax extraction

Using the same state-of-the-art video otoscopy equipment to directly visualise the wax in your ear, we can safely remove the build-up with ENT micro-instruments, such as the ear hook or Jobson Horne.

Cochlear Implants

Everyone’s hearing loss situation is different, and a cochlear implant is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We’re certain we can help you, but also want to be sure we’re providing exactly the right care. Your suitability for a cochlear implant will be determined via a consultation with one of our expert audiologists.

angli-EAR Hearing’s Full Diagnostic Test determines how profound your hearing loss is. We’ll also investigate the root cause of your loss, assessing which section of the ear (inner, middle or outer) is functioning poorly. This knowledge helps us decide whether an implant could be beneficial.

We can also assist clients with an existing NHS cochlear implant, in need of a replacement or processor upgrade. Or, as the NHS typically only offers an implant in one ear, you may wish to have a second fitted privately. Rest assured, our experts are here for you, too.

Paediatric Hearing Care

At angli-EAR Hearing, we’re proud to offer paediatric services, designed to help children from school-age onwards flourish, setting the minds of parents and carers at ease. Much more so than adults, hearing problems in youngsters can lead to delays with language and speech development, academic setbacks, stunted social skills and a loss of overall confidence.

angli-EAR Hearing’s paediatric services include a range of assessments, designed for children of all ages. These tests are performed by audiologists who are highly experienced with children. Assessments are relaxed, painless and even fun. Toys and games might be used to obtain responses from the child, and they may be expected to wear overhead or in-the-ear headphones.

Paediatric treatments fall mostly in line with what we offer adults – the only difference is our child-focused approach. Our audiologists are highly trained and experienced in working with all ages, so you can rest assured that your child will receive the same expert care you would yourself.
