Peter Tavner is an Emeritus Professor of Durham University, UK with a Cambridge MA, Southampton PhD and Durham DSc.

He served in the Royal Navy, subsequently working in an MRC laboratory then teaching at the University of Benin, Nigeria before holding technical positions in electrical supply and manufacturing industries, including manufacturing wind turbines, electrical machines and drives in Europe.

In 2003 he was appointed Professor of New & Renewable Energy in Engineering at Durham University, leading several UK and European research initiatives to improve wind, wave, and tidal reliability.

More recently he has provided consultancy in UK and China. He retains an interest in the development of wind, tidal and wave power and is the author of 3 books on the subject.
