About us

Riverlane’s mission is to make quantum computing useful, sooner. From advances in material science to complex chemistry simulation for drug design and discovery, quantum computers will help solve some of the world’s most important challenges. Riverlane is building the quantum error correction stack to make this happen. It’s a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion. Having recently raised $75M in Series C funding to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in Quantum Error Correction (QEC), we’re partnering with many of the leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies around the world to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity to join Riverlane as a Quantum Error Correction Researcher.

In this exciting new position, you will become a valued member of our Logic team, which works to build the knowledge and the software stack required for future large-scale error-corrected calculations on quantum computing hardware. This talented team is a mix of mathematicians, physicists and software developers, working with leading experts in QEC on a range of exciting, high-impact and cutting-edge projects.

Collaborating extensively with other teams within Riverlane, as well as with world-leading external partners, this critical work will directly contribute to Riverlane’s quantum error correction stack.  To help you excel in this role, we will support you to learn and develop an understanding of QEC and related concepts – previous knowledge is not required.

This position is well-suited to someone who has a good foundation in programming, with a keen interest to learn, develop and contribute to creative QEC solutions.

What you will do

  • Learn about quantum computing and QEC
  • Explore existing and develop new QEC protocols, with the freedom to think independently and creatively
  • Work with our hardware partners to propose and optimise QEC experiments
  • Write code to test scientific ideas and contribute to software-focused products
  • Share your expertise and collaborate with other teams at Riverlane to guide development of various parts of the QEC stack
  • Write papers and present your work at conferences

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex ideas with a variety of audiences, in a clear and simple way
  • A passion for learning and a curious mindset

Even better if you have

  • Experience in scientific research (in academia or industry)
  • Some understanding of quantum computing and/or error correction

Benefits

What can you expect from us

  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus scheme, private medical insurance, life insurance and a contributory pension scheme
  • Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
