Cambridge Centre for Computing History partners with Darktrace for cybersecurity workshop

Cambridge Centre for Computing History has partnered with leading cybersecurity experts Darktrace, whose team has developed a 'Capture The Flag' workshop to help young people understand some key cybersecurity concepts and recognise how cybersecurity impacts our everyday lives.

The centre writes:

Networks are under daily threat from viruses, worms and worst of all: hackers.  These networks need a shield; they need ethical hackers. They need YOU.

An ethical hacker tests a network for weaknesses and finds them before an external threat does. Darktrace are cybersecurity experts and they are looking to raise awareness and better arm tomorrow's IT professionals. That's you! Learn the techniques used to hack network security, find the weaknesses and keep your client's data secure.  It takes a hacker to stop a hacker. What's a Capture The Flag?In technology and computing, a Capture the Flag event is where people compete to hack into a system the quickest and recover a series of secret 'flags'. Flags usually take the form of a short password or phrase and can be hidden anywhere. Flags are entered into a central scoreboard to track everyone's progress - whoever captures them all first wins. What's the challenge?Darkbook is a small social network set up by a group of friends. The community has grown a bit recently and the admin team are worried they may soon become a target for hackers looking to steal user data and snoop on private messages. They've asked you to perform a pentest on the site - expose any vulnerabilities so the security team can fix them before a real attack can occur. If you get stuck, hints are available on the scoreboard and if you get really stuck, just give one of the team a shout.(Image removed)

This will help young people understand some key cybersecurity concepts and recognise how cybersecurity impacts our everyday lives.
