Cambridge to showcase how digital badges are a game changer for student skills development

On Wednesday 21 June, Cambridge City Council, alongside other local authorities, will present how schools and colleges can use digital badges to revolutionise student employability, in a webinar hosted by Lightcast.

Anne Bailey, Lucy Laing, Jo Hodgson

During the webinar, Co-Project Managers of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Region of Learning, Lucy Laing and Jo Hodgson, will be joined by representatives from Southampton Local Authority, Belfast City Council and National Leader of Education and Headteacher, Rae Snape. Together they will explain how digital badging is transforming how students with no existing, or with a limited number of formal qualifications, can develop their skills and confidence. Students can develop these through their interests, extra-curricular activities and alternative provision, helping them to achieve their learning and career goals

Lucy Laing, Co-Project Manager at Region of Learning, said: “We’re excited to show how schools can use digital pathways to motivate every student, no matter their academic ability. Digital badges which focus on skills help young people to reach their potential and showcase their skillset to employers. Digital badges are a new type of digital certificate which enable young people to track and display to employers the skills they have gained through the varied learning experiences that take place outside the classroom, supporting them to pursue their future career.”

The webinar will also welcome Anne Bailey, CEO of local careers service provider Form the Future, which has partnered with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Region of Learning to provide pioneering badging career support for young people to enable them to achieve their career goals.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Region of Learning is a region-wide initiative which brings together local employers and education providers to recognise and reward informal learning and skills as well as provide new opportunities for young people, and boost social mobility within the region.
