The Role:

The University Catering Services are part of the Workplace Services within Estates Division, University of Cambridge.

We provide catering services to students, staff and the public in locations across the University estate from small coffee shop operations to the larger canteen at the West Hub.

We are looking for Food Service Assistants to join our busy catering teams across the university estate. The position will assist with the preparation of our fresh food offer, serving customers as well as with washing up and cleaning, whilst providing excellent customer service at all times.

About you:

Previous experience of working in a busy catering environment is desirable although training will be provided. You will need to be able to work as part of a team, be a people person and have the ability to provide a high level of customer service at all times.

Please also bear in mind that the role is physical and that heavy lifting and the putting away of stock is a requirement of the role.

The University Catering Services offer a competitive salary, generous annual leave allowance and primarily Monday-Friday working hours*.

Compensation for weekend working will be in the form of time off in lieu or paid overtime.

Full time positions

  • Shifts cover the operational day, Monday-Friday*, 7.00am-5:30pm (36.5 hours per week)
  • Working locations will vary between our cafes on the Sidgwick and West Cambridge sites.

Part time positions

Part time positions are available at the West Hub Canteen and Coffee bar only, on a Monday-Friday* basis.

  • 10.30-2.30 (20 hours per week)
  • 10.00-3.30 (25 hours per week)

*Weekend working may be required on occasion, for example, in the event of a university open day or science festival. Compensation for weekend working will be in the form of time off in lieu or paid overtime.
