HR Professional

Evonetix is a start-up company which is set to revolutionise gene synthesis as needed to facilitate the fast-growing and exciting field of synthetic biology. Our technology requires a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electronic and software engineers, synthetic and surface chemists, physicists and biologists, all supported by a strong corporate function.

Given recent and projected growth, Evonetix is looking for an HR Professional to join the expanding support team to enable further success. Evonetix currently employs over 100 people.



The Position


This new position is being created to provide comprehensive administrative HR Function in line with the needs and priorities of the business. As we look to scale-up our business we would like to augment our HR processes and procedures and provide increased  clarity and consistency for our people.


The position will report to the VP of Finance, but will also work closely with the Operations Director, the individual Group Heads and across the business. This role affords a great opportunity for personal growth as the business and function grows.


The key responsibilities will include all aspects of the employee life cycle, including:


  • To be the initial point of contact (‘go to person’) for HR related queries 
  • Recruitment, selection and employee onboarding
  • The Company’s performance management process, including annual salary reviews
  • Handling all aspects of employee relations, including support, absence and disciplinary procedures
  • Maintaining and administering employee perks and benefits
  • Managing and monitoring employee sick leave, holiday and other time off
  • Delivering an annual programme of training against an agreed budget
  • Conducting exit interviews and ensuring learnings are appropriately fed back and actioned
  • Ensuring the company's employment policies and procedures remain compliant with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Working with the finance team on payroll matters, in particular collating required information for monthly payroll
  • To be the administrator for the Bamboo HR System


The Company utilises an experienced HR Consultant who will continue to be able to support the position as required.



Skills and experience


You will be diligent and reliable with excellent attention to detail and have a willingness to challenge and improve current processes.


Qualifications (e.g. CIPD) are valued but can be compensated by relevant experience. Support for future training will be available.


Most vital is a proven track record of sound advice and guidance to all levels of staff, and an ability to work will people across seniority and disciplines.



Essential experience and expertise


  • Prior experience in an HR function
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • A flexible, pragmatic approach
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to clearly present ideas and solutions; to listen, analyse and respond effectively in complex and difficult situations and influence and persuade as appropriate
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications
  • Maintenance of a high level of integrity and confidentiality



Desirable experience and expertise


  • Experience of working in a smaller, hands-on corporate support team
  • Experience of the Bamboo HR platform or similar
  • Experience of working in Science and/or Engineering companies
  • Experience of international employee sponsorship



Salary and Benefits


The proposed salary is £30,000 to £40,000 FTE, depending on experience and qualifications.
