Opportunity: Senior Group Director, Late Vaccines and Immune Therapies

In this anticipated role as a Vaccines and Immune Therapies (V&I) Senior Group Director, you will have responsibility for line managing scientists and physicians, including performance management and professional development activities. The Senior Group Director is accountable to the Executive Group Director of V&I for maximizing efficient utilization of their group's scientists and physicians and to deliver the agreed V&I objectives.
You will lead your team by example displaying AZ values and helping shape an inclusive culture of growth and development. You will participate in drug program activities as agreed with the Executive Director or VP of V&I. You may also have accountability for additional non-program project work in support of optimizing Clinical Development within the organization.
Your key role is to achieve these aims by efficiently resourcing program(s) and providing strategic and operational leadership within V&I, supported by the Executive Director or VP of V&I.
Provide strategic and operational leadership to assigned scientists and physicians. Ensure consistent practices, compliance with internal SOPs, local regulations and laws, talent development, leadership development, best practice sharing, mentoring programs, coaching, training, and medical education in collaboration with the Executive Group Director V&I and across Biopharmaceuticals.

Deliver performance management
Guide professional development
Ensure expectations for success are clearly understood and agreed
Ensure individuals are rewarded and recognized appropriately for success
Actively manage poor performance
Efficiently utilize resources and capabilities within their group in alignment with agreed Late R&I resource deployment principles.
Responsible for working with Late R&I capacity management team to ensure that program resource allocations and requests are accurately reflected in capacity management systems. May work with capacity management team to modify resource algorithms as business need evolves.
Recruitment and retention of internal and external talent to support capabilities.
Collaborate with peers to ensure consistency of approach and implementation of best practices in capability development, including on-boarding processes for new hires.
Ensure pipeline of successors to Global Clinical Program Leader, Global Development Scientist/Medical Director, and Senior Group Director roles.
Medical and scientific background with MD, Ph.D., PharmD degree or equivalent
Relevant experience in line management and/or leading a team
Broad clinical and research background and a comprehensive understanding of medical aspects of drug development
Experience in pharmaceutical drug development Generally, at least 3-5 years of pharmaceutical company experience is required although in exceptional cases, other relevant experience may be substituted
Infectious diseases experience e.g. COVID, RSV &/or Influenza
Working knowledge of performance management, capacity management, budget management, and employment legislation
Specific experience in late stage pharmaceutical drug development
