RealVNC, the original developer and leading provider of VNC® remote access and control software, has launched ‘deskhop’, a slick new Facebook app which uses patented technology to enable people to share their computer screens with friends.
‘deskhop’ Facebook app brings remote access technology to the masses
Designed to be usable by anyone with a Facebook account (about a billion people), ‘deskhop’ works by prompting two people wanting to share screens to temporarily run a small software program on their computers. The two programs then automatically establish an encrypted connection together over the Internet, resulting in one person taking over the screen of the other.
‘deskhop’ is an invaluable tool for the technical wizard who supports friends and family with their IT issues or students that want to collaborate on a document but aren’t in the same room. When either person disconnects, both programs are automatically deleted, leaving no trace. It is not possible for either party to re-establish the connection without the other’s permission, nor for anyone else to connect in. The screen owner always has priority over control of the mouse, and can therefore disconnect the other person at any time.
‘deskhop ‘ is powered by VNC, one of the most ubiquitous software solutions with over a billion copies worldwide. Available on virtually every type of computer or device that has a screen, it is the most widely ported software application ever, and its use is set to spread even further with the release of ‘deskhop’.
“The importance of social media in today's world cannot be overemphasized. As a long-established leader in remote access technology, we are perfectly positioned to provide a screen sharing experience within the Facebook platform.” said Adam Greenwood Byrne, VP Hosted Products, RealVNC . “deskhop gives users a new way to interact with and help their friends and family from wherever they are. We expect to capture the hearts and minds of Facebook's diverse user-base with our unique application.”
“We wanted to bring the power and versatility of screen sharing to a whole new set of people,” explains Dr Andy Harter, CEO and Founder of RealVNC. “There is nothing else like this in Facebook, and we think it will be incredibly popular. Being integrated into the Facebook world is the key to making screen sharing simple and easy to use.”
RealVNC also collaborates with leading players in the technology industry, including Intel who integrate VNC on their chips for PCs and laptops; and Google use the technology to enable remote access functionality within their Chrome products. RealVNC is also at the forefront of innovation in the automotive industry, where VNC is the standard for integrating smartphones with in-vehicle infotainment systems.
RealVNC's VNC remote access software is used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide in every sector of industry, government and education. VNC is the original remote access software with a wide range of applications. The technology supports an unrivalled mix of desktop and mobile platforms and can be embedded in third-party products with a commercial license. www.realvnc.com
