RealVNC, the global provider of VNC® remote access technology and premier MirrorLink™ supplier, has joined The GENIVI Alliance, an automotive and consumer electronics industry association driving the development and adoption of an open In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) reference platform.
RealVNC joins the Genivi Alliance to support customers adopting the platform
RealVNC is now able to provide better support to its customers and partners that are adopting the Genivi platform and will be showcasing its leading MirrorLink solution, VNC Automotive, to Genivi members at the event in Gothenburg in May 2014.
VNC Automotive delivers video frame rates with negligible latency to the front screen whilst showing multiple simultaneous videos streaming to several rear seat entertainment screens. It enables a phone application such as navigation maps to be accessible from the front screen of the vehicle, whilst at the same time, from the same phone, streaming content such as different videos and games to multiple screens in the rear.
The technology also allows for multiple mobile devices to connect to the vehicle at the same time and stream content so any passengers in the car will also be able to access their phone content, including videos and music. This gives automotive manufacturers the best flexibility to tailor their offering in a unique way.
“We are delighted to join the Genivi Alliance,” said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile at RealVNC. “Together with the Car Connectivity Consortium we can make MirrorLink the centre of the connected car.”
RealVNC’s software is used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide; in over 1 Billion devices; in every sector of industry, government and education. RealVNC is a core member of the Car Connectivity Consortium supporting the MirrorLink specification, which uses VNC.
VNC Automotive underpins many of the commercial MirrorLink™ Certified products and has been available in production with automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and phone vendors for over two years.
Founded by the original inventors of VNC, RealVNC is the only organization able to offer a commercial license to embed VNC in third-party products and offerings.
