This work will involve making excavations (trial pits) and boreholes to investigate and test the soils at locations where works are proposed so designs can be finalised. Some of these will be in the highway verge, but at locations where more significant works are proposed they will be (by permission) in the adjacent fields.
In some cases specialised equipment will be used where a probe is pushed into the soil to test its strength. Samples will be taken from pits and boreholes for laboratory testing, and in some locations cores will be taken out of surfacing to confirm thickness.
The work is expected to take about two months to complete.
