Industry has used distributed sensing and control systems for decades, so what's new?

Amyas will introduce how he sees internet of things, its drivers and segments, and discuss common and emerging design patterns.

  • Relationships manifest as communications and trust.
  • Many industrial internet platforms have been bought by verticals - why?
  • Why IP to the edge.
  • Devices as web services.
  • Security, gateways and legacy systems.
  • Devices with services vs IT infrastructure and application software.
  • Consumer IoT - building scale, reducing cost, throwing out ideas.
  • The quest for ROI.  Cost structure.  IoT as IT.  The truth about battery life.   The connectivity wars. Interoperability means longevity
