Anglia Ruskin academic named climate change journal editor

Anglia Ruskin University academic Dr Candice Howarth has been named as the new Editor of the International Journal of Climate Change: Impacts and Responses.

Dr Howarth is a Senior Research Fellow in Climate Action and Cultural Systems at Anglia Ruskin’s Global Sustainability Institute.

Owned by US-based Common Ground Publishing, the International Journal of Climate Change: Impacts and Responses seeks to create an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of evidence of climate change, its causes, and its impacts.  The journal also explores technological, policy, strategic and social responses to climate change.

One of Dr Howarth’s first duties will be to host a workshop at the Eighth International Conference on Climate Change: Impacts & Responses in Vietnam in April 2016, which will focus on proactive responses to climate change and risk management.

Dr Howarth said: “My focus as Editor is to bring in invited papers, curate special journal issues, and to work with the Common Ground conference team to help guide the direction of the 2016 event in Vietnam.

“As the new Editor there is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the direction of the knowledge community working in the field of climate change.”

At Anglia Ruskin’s Global Sustainability Institute, Dr Howarth is leading research on climate scepticism, the science-policy interface, co-production approaches to climate communication, local engagement on climate change and the design of climate engagement and communication strategies between key stakeholders and young people.

From September 2013 to November 2014, she was on secondment to the International Climate Change Directorate in the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) leading on stakeholder engagement on international climate policy and the science-policy interface.

Dr Howarth is a member of the UCL Policy Commission on Communicating Climate Science, a Committee Member of the BSA Climate Change Study Group and a trustee of the environmental behaviour change charity Global Action Plan.
