The University has been nominated alongside seven other businesses including Adnams, AccorHotels and The Larkfleet Group, in the edie Sustainability Leaders Awards 2017, in the category of Sustainable Business Award. Anglia Ruskin is the only UK university to be nominated in this category.

Anglia Ruskin’s nomination is due to its commitment to sustainability across its curriculum, research and operations. ‘Concern for the Environment’ is included as one of the University’s values. Since 2014, Anglia Ruskin’s academic regulations have set out the inclusion of sustainability in every course.

In 2011, Anglia Ruskin founded the Global Sustainability Institute, dedicated to research in this area. Anglia Ruskin was also the first UK university to sign up to the Rio+20 declaration, committing to the development of sustainable practices for Higher Education Institutions.

Professor Iain Martin, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, said: “Being a university that sees sustainability as a core strength is not only socially responsible but it makes sound business sense. Our recently Sustainability Strategy outlines the approach we see as critical and creates milestones and goals to ensure we are successful in our commitments.

“We are very proud of our achievements, both educationally and practically, in in promoting sustainability – it is a privilege to be nominated for this national award.”

The winners of all 19 categories will be announced at a gala ceremony at London’s Park Lane Hilton on 25 January 2017.
