Professor Martin (pictured) is currently Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University of New South Wales in Australia, a post that he has held since 2012.
With his leadership the University of New South Wales is transforming its approach to teaching and learning with an increased emphasis on the innovative use of digital resources.
He has also undertaken a fundamental review of its governance structure to better prepare it for an increasingly challenging political and economic environment.
Previously Professor Martin held a number of senior academic positions in New Zealand at the University of Auckland. From 2005-2011 he was Dean of Medical and Health Sciences and as Deputy Vice Chancellor led that university’s very successful international activities.
Professor Martin was born in Newport, Gwent, and spent his childhood in Hampshire. He studied Medicine at the University of Leeds and trained and worked as a surgeon in Leeds before moving to New Zealand in 2000. He is married with two children.
Dr Jerome Booth, Chairman at Anglia Ruskin University, said: “The Board of Governors is thrilled that Iain has agreed to join us at this exciting time. Anglia Ruskin University is a dynamic organisation which has come a long way in a relatively short period.
“We have ambitious plans for the future and we know that Iain will do a terrific job in taking Anglia Ruskin forward to still greater achievements.”
Speaking of his appointment Professor Martin said: “I am absolutely delighted to be taking up this role. It is a great opportunity to build on the significant achievements of this innovative University. I look forward to working with staff and students across the University to create a distinctive future for Anglia Ruskin.”
