Anglia Ruskin helps firm get the job done

More than 20 employees from a leading construction company are to complete a bespoke online course to gain the right skills to assist them in building homes, hospitals, schools, leisure centres and sports stadiums.

Anglia Ruskin has worked with Willmott Dixon, one of the UK’s largest construction and residential development specialists, to provide the online Construction Planning and Programming course as a flexible and efficient way to up skill.

In the first instance, a total of 23 Willmott Dixon employees will use the course to equip them with essential theories, principles and practical tools to deliver projects to the highest quality. They will enjoy full access to Anglia Ruskin’s learning facilities and complete practical assessments at the end of the 12-week course.

Anglia Ruskin University was picked ahead of other universities to collaborate on the programme due to its close existing links with Willmott Dixon. Anglia Ruskin already works with the firm to validate its Management Development Level (MDL) 3 programme, its internal programme for future leaders.

Suparna Ghose, Principal Consultant for Degrees At Work at Anglia Ruskin, said: “In recent years the Government has failed to meet its targets for building new homes and this is partly down to skills shortages in the construction industry.

“Willmott Dixon are keen to ensure they are well-placed to help deliver the new homes that young people in the UK so desperately need. We at Anglia Ruskin were delighted to be able to put together a tailored programme to ensure their employees are in a better position to get their projects completed on time.”

Paul Hoskins, National Planning Manager for Willmott Dixon, said: “Predictability, at all levels of the business, is fundamental to the delivery of our projects and the success of the Willmott Dixon business as a whole. This can only be achieved by effective planning and programming.”

Sarah Packman, Group Learning and Development Manager for Willmott Dixon, said: “The ability to plan and programme effectively is a fundamental skill that is essential for our people to have, especially our site-based professionals.

“The academically accredited work-based programme we have developed in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University is a targeted learning intervention that will provide our people across functions with the right skills and abilities to plan effectively.”

The course will be made available to all from January. For further details, visit http://www.anglia.ac.uk/planning
