Staff received the award at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London last night (Thurs), beating off competition from University College London, the University of Central Lancashire, University of Chester, Kingston University and Teeside University.
In the THE’s citation read when the award was announced, Anglia Ruskin was praised for its MedTech Campus, one of the world’s largest innovation spaces, the work carried out by the Degrees at Work team and the support provided by subsidiary Ixion Holdings to 5,000 start-up businesses.
Anglia Ruskin was also praised for its commitment to local and regional partners as well as its appointment of entrepreneurs in residence and student enterprise champions.
Professor Michael Thorne, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, said: “I’m thrilled for the staff who have worked so hard to prepare the bid and for Anglia Ruskin as a whole to be recognised for the culture of entrepreneurship we have nurtured.
“We have invested £122million in our campuses in the last five years and also worked to forge links with partner colleges worldwide. We pride ourselves on being as enterprising as we are innovative and nurture those qualities in our students. This award is a tremendous achievement.”
John Gill, editor of Times Higher Education, said: “Our universities and colleges are among the nation’s most respected institutions, both domestically and internationally, and it is THE’s great privilege to have played a part in celebrating their achievements over the past decade. Long may it continue!”
