Anglia Ruskin Professor to edit new online journal

An Anglia Ruskin University professor known worldwide for his work investigating the biology of cancers is to edit a new open access journal.

This is an exciting role and I am delighted to support the sharing of excellence in biomolecular detection and quantification.
- Professor Stephen Bustin

Professor Stephen Bustin will be Editor-in-chief of the Biomolecular Detection and Quantification (BDQ) journal, which has been launched this week by science publisher Elsevier.

BDQ is an open access and online, quarterly journal dedicated to championing excellence in molecular biology-based study design, measurement, data analyses and reporting. It will publish original research papers, review articles, short communications, commentaries, points of view and perspective articles.

BDQ will cover clinical and non-clinical subjects ranging from epigenetics to environmental and food science.

Professor Bustin said: “This is an exciting role and I am delighted to support the sharing of excellence in biomolecular detection and quantification.

“My work with the Postgraduate Medical Institute at Anglia Ruskin University has been aimed at improving molecular measurement to make sure findings are correctly interpreted and reproducible. I am looking forward to sharing key findings and supporting the research community.”

Professor Bustin’s special interest focuses on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and he has written and edited three books on the subject, including the definitive “A-Z of Quantitative PCR”, and has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on this subject.

He advised the UK High Court on PCR technology in the Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine - autism class action and was an expert witness for the US Department of Justice at the MMR trial in Washington DC. He guided the world-wide initiative leading to the publication of the “Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Experiments” (MIQE) guidelines. He is also Editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Molecular Science and on the editorial board of Nature Scientific Reports.

The first published papers are now available online on ScienceDirect: www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/22147535
