Anglia Ruskin strengthens links with Nanjing

A new China-UK Creative Centre has been officially opened at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

To mark the opening, which was presided over by Government officials and academics from the Chinese city of Nanjing, a special exhibition has gone on show in the Ruskin Gallery at Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus.

The Nanjing Bi-City Art Biennale Cambridge 2016 features dozens of pieces of art produced by students and staff from Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUIST)covering both traditional and digital arts, including oil painting, illustration, film and animation.

Anglia Ruskin already has a strong relationship with NUIST.  There are currently 30 NUIST students in Cambridge studying Computer Games Art, while academics from Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge School of Art regularly teach in the city of Nanjing, which is an important education centre in China.

Among the senior figures at the official opening were Pan Guping, Minister of Communications at Nanjing Municipal Government, Wang Liang Zhu, Minister of Communications at Pukon District Government, Professor Fan Han of the School of Media and Art at NUIST, and Professor Iain Martin, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin.

Chris Owen, Head of Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge School of Art, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the launch of the new China-UK Creative Centre at Anglia Ruskin.

“This initiative has grown from a six-year partnership between Cambridge School of Art and NUIST in the field of Computer Games Art, and it was a pleasure to see many of our Chinese students who have progressed to us from NUIST at the launch event.

“The new centre will form a solid platform from which Anglia Ruskin can build exciting new creative ventures in Nanjing.”
