A full planning application has been unanimously approved by South Norfolk Council for a new sustainable business park near Wymondham, just outside Norwich, creating flexible space for workshops and offices for the employment of over 300 people in modern, energy efficient and low carbon surroundings.

The new Norwich Energy Innovation Park has been developed by the Goff Group, which delivers heating oil across East Anglia and the south-east, and will be based at Goff’s premises near the existing Hethel Engineering Centre, Norwich. The planning submission follows an on-line consultation which attracted interest from over 20,000 people and received over-whelming support.

Project Manager, Saul Humphrey said: “this latest development is designed to provide flexible space for “clean growth” creating almost 9,000sq m of high quality, low carbon employment space with naturally ventilated offices, extensive and flexible workshops and ‘hub’ space for collaboration. The building is designed around a Glulam and CLT timber framed structure to achieve an “Outstanding” classification under the Building Research Establishment Assessment Method (BREEAM) and as such would the first building in South Norfolk Council’s area to achieve such status. All spaces will be available with flexible tenures to suit post-COVID19 requirements and be ideally positioned on the Cambridge Norwich Tech Corridor.”

William Goff said: This development marks a significant step forward in the company’s ongoing plans to diversify the business and continue the drive towards more sustainable growth. The new Norwich Energy Innovation Park will provide much needed grow-on space for ambitious businesses and new ventures. This really is a huge investment in the potential of Norfolk as a business centre as well as for our business.”

Chris Sargisson, chair of the Cambridge Norwich Tech Corridor delivery board which supported the intial planning application, said: “We support the addition of innovative and sustainable places such as this which allow businesses to grow in this popular location just off the A11. This proposal will also provide clean growth which aligns with the underpinning pillar of the region’s strategy.  We also welcome the opportunity to promote alternative energy solutions that could help unlock growth in other locations across the region and bring together the energy and engineering focus with the digital/ICT sector."
