Every July, Wysing offers a glimpse into the studios of the artists who work on its inspiring rural site near Bourn. This year, it has also invited special guest artists, plus there will be the chance to meet the artists taking part in summer residency, The Mirror, including Turner Prize 2012 nominee Elizabeth Price.
Over the Open Weekend on 14 and 15 July, 50 artists will take part in the two-day extravaganza which includes artists’ spoken word performances (Sat 2-6pm); film screenings (Sun 4-6pm) and a round-table discussion on the metaphor of The Mirror (Sun 2.30pm). Throughout the weekend artists’ studios will be open and the exhibition Recollect, exploring memory and architecture, will be in the gallery. Plus there will be artist-led, family, drop-in family workshops from 11am-4pm on both days and refreshments available throughout. In addition, a number of writers and artists will be in attendance working on new projects which rely on writing or are presented in relation to the written word.
A highlight of the weekend is the specially commissioned project Grantchester Ices – in which artists Phil Root and Giles Round are not only preparing ice cream using locally sourced fruit, they are also currently working in Wysing’s ceramics studio, making the ice cream holders in which to serve it, alongside specially made cups and saucers.
The artists are: An Endless Supply , Ed Atkins, Liz Ballard, Better Futures Forever, Erica Böhr, Amy Budd, Jackie Chettur, Phil Coy, Patrick Coyle, Elena Cologni, Annabelle Craven-Jones, Nicolas Deshayes, Mat Do, Sean Edwards, Bettina Furnée, Clare Gasson, Grantchester Pottery, Aaron Head, Claire Hope, Lizzie Hughes, Glen Jamieson, Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau, Shama Khanna, Karin Kihlberg & Reuben Henry, Flora Parrot, Rosie Pedlow & Joe King, Kit Poulson, Philomene Pirecki, Elizabeth Price, Kari Rittenbach, Una Knox, Anna Reckin, Florian Roithmayr, Solveig Settemsdal, Rob Smith, Adam Smythe, Alan Stanners, Amy Spencer, Helen Stratford, Mark Titchner, Caroline Wendling, Lisa Wilkens, Simon Woolham and Caroline Wright.

In the last five years this approach has led to the creation of extraordinary projects and experiences, and has made Wysing one of Europe’s leading centres for the visual arts. With a large rural site comprising ten buildings including artists’ studios, educational and new media facilities, a gallery and project spaces; with an ongoing and innovative artistic programme of events, exhibitions, retreats and residencies; and a unique programme for young artists, Wysing Arts Centre is delivering a rich programme that is accessible on many levels to a range of people.
