Cambridge’s Hospice is looking for twenty six of the City’s finest community-minded businesses to take part in the Accumulator Challenge sponsored by ARM. The exciting initiative, challenges those businesses chosen to take part to put on their thinking caps, employ their best entrepreneurial minds and raise as much money as possible for the Hospice’s vital care, from an initial £50 investment!
The game will be launched from Arthur Rank Hospice’s home in Shelford Bottom, on 9 October at 6.30pm where competing teams will have the opportunity to meet and size up their competition, whilst collecting their participant pack and their £50 investment, generously provided by ARM.
Over a period of 12 weeks between Monday 9 October and Sunday 31 December 2017, teams will invest as much ingenuity and time as they wish to grow the £50: current champions of the Accumulator Challenge, Quy Mill Hotel & Spa managed to reach the lofty heights of £4250 in 2015 though activities such as bauble making competitions, raffles at Christmas parties and lunch with Santa!
Tactics may vary: from simple to clever schemes; time-tested methods to game-changing ideas; one big fundraiser to strategic reinvestment with continuous smaller projects. All ideas are encouraged as the ‘Accumulator Challenge teams’ battle it out over the festive period, aiming to multiply their £50 into a bigger amount than their competition. The winner will be announced at the Hospice’s closing ceremony at the end of December, where they will receive a bespoke trophy courtesy of Go-Glass.
Funds raised by the competing teams will be handed over to help fund the vital care provided by the Arthur Rank Hospice. The Hospice and its supporters are still working hard to raise the remaining £2 million needed for its £10.5 million state-of-the-art home. Alongside this, as an independent hospice, it must also secure £7.45 million every year to deliver vital care and services, free of charge, to those living with a life-limiting illness in Cambridgeshire.
Since the Accumulator Challenge first launched in 2012, 67 teams have taken part and an incredible £52,112 has been raised by those growing their initial £50 loan. Quy Mill Hotel and Spa, Royal Cambridge Hotel, Studio 24 Ltd, John Lewis Cambridge, Tesco Fulbourn, Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital and Great Events have already signed up to take part, with the Charity welcoming enquiries from other businesses and organisations.
Zoe Wilson, Sales Executive from Quy Mill Hotel and Spa, winners of the 2015 Accumulator Challenge tells us why they are entering a team again this year “This will be our third year taking part in the Accumulator Challenge, having had the Arthur Rank Hospice as our nominated charity for three years running. The challenge is a fantastic way to engage the team at Quy Mill in our fundraising efforts, with the money raised going to such a good cause.”
Simon Humphrey, Senior Corporate Responsibility Manager at ARM is encouraging others to step up to the mark, beat the competition and make a real impact in their local community. He says: “Arm is pleased to be supporting the Accumulator Challenge again this year. This is a brilliant initiative engaging so many people with their community in raising money for an excellent cause.”
