Awards celebrate the best building designs and most considerate contractors

The best new construction projects, and the companies that have worked to keep the impact of their building work to a minimum, were among those honoured at an awards ceremony this week.

The Cambridge Design and Construction Awards and the Considerate Contractor Scheme Awards, hosted by the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry (CFCI) and co-sponsored by CFCI, Cambridge City Council and Cambridge News, were held  yesterday (Monday) at the McGrath Centre, St Catharine’s College.

The Cambridge Design and Construction Awards celebrate buildings which are judged to have best met the criteria of excellent design appropriate to its context, good quality workmanship and materials, and sustainability.

The Considerate Contractor Scheme Awards are presented annually to firms that have made significant efforts to minimise noise and disruption on building projects, with due consideration for neighbours and members of the public in keeping sites safe, clean and accountable.

Cllr Kevin Blencowe, Executive Councillor for Planning Policy and Transport, said: “Well done to all of the winners and those commended in this year’s awards. They can feel proud of what they have achieved and their contribution to Cambridge and its 21st century development.

“As these awards show, there are construction firms and architects building high quality sustainable buildings, to excellent standards and with respectful consideration towards people living and working near to sites.

“These are the standards we look for in Cambridge and it is right that we celebrate the success of those who have met them. I am also pleased that we have been able to celebrate young talent in the sector who look set for successful careers ahead of them.”
