Rosemary Francis, MD of Cambridge UK technology company Ellexus, has won the veteran award at the inaugural Techpreneurs of the Year Awards, held in London at the University Women’s Club.
Ellexus makes tools to solve the problems that arise when deploying and tuning Linux applications. Its software, Breeze, is aimed at IT managers and people who deploy complex applications.
Launched in March and sponsored by Bailey Fisher Executive Search, the Techpreneurs awards recognise the achievements of female entrepreneurs in the technology sector and aim to inspire and encourage the next generation of game-changing female entrepreneurs.
Rosemary Francis, Founder, MD and Director of Technology at Ellexus took home the veterans award for women playing a definitive role in an existing company, which has been trading for less than five years, with a turnover of up to £10 million.
Sonia Powar, Partner at Boost & Co and member of the judging panel said “The quality of the veterans entries was very high and we saw a good mix of companies demonstrating the variety of technology-driven businesses across many industries.
“With Ellexus we were particularly impressed by it being a pure technology business with a successful business model that we could see scale up significantly in the future. Furthermore, Rosemary has a fantastic STEM background combined with an entrepreneurial spirit that she has used to found this business – a great role model to encourage more women to focus on STEM subjects.”
A second Cambridge entrepreneur, Victoria Johnson, founder of telemedicine company VetCT, was highly commended in the veteran category.
The Techpreneurs Awards are the brainchild of entrepreneur Fiona Scott-Lazareff, who chaired the judging panel. The awards were sponsored by Bailey Fisher Executive Search, Champagne Virginie T, Computer Weekly and The Modern Pantry.
