If you answered yes, perhaps you could be one of Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust's new governors.
Nominations are open from today and candidates have until Thursday 9 April to submit their nomination. The Trust is seeking eight governors in total, three each from the public and patient groups and two to represent staff.
You don’t need to have any prior knowledge of the NHS or management to become a Governor – just a passion for improving healthcare in the community and upholding CUH’s values of being kind, safe and excellent.
Daryl Brown, who has been a governor since 2011 and lead governor from March last year, says it is a great opportunity to serve the community.
He said: “For me, being a governor gives you an incredible insight into the complex workings of one of the world’s leading hospitals – from world-leading research to progressive healthcare. As a governor you can help shape CUH as it grows to meet the challenges of the future.
“I’ve been a passionate advocate for a hospital which has cared for my family and friends over the years. I’ve always been impressed with the quality of care from these incredible hospitals and as a governor from May 2011 and lead from March 2014, it’s great to be able to give something back.”
Potential candidates can learn more about the role of a governor and the election process at events in the boardroom at CUH Monday 16 March and on Tuesday 22 March in Room 9 at The Deakin Centre. Early booking is advised.
On Wednesday 6 May, there is a ‘Meet the Candidates’ event which is immediately prior to the ‘Medicine for Members’ lecture, where the speaker will be one of CUH's partnership governors, Professor Andrew Lever of Cambridge University. Meet the Candidates is open to anyone who wishes to chat to prospective governors before casting their vote.

- East Hertfordshire District Council (Selected Wards – Buntingford, Braughing and Mundens and Cottered)
- North Hertfordshire District Council (Selected Wards – Ermine, Royston Palace, Royston Meridian and Royston Heath)

- Staff Members – All staff who are on a permanent contract (or at least one year’s duration) who have a box number address at work, unless they have decided to opt out, plus Trust volunteers.
