Beyond Venture Capital: How to capitalise your business for growth

Bailey Fisher Executive Search will host the latest in its series of peer-to-peer networking events for CFOs in the high-growth technology sector on 12 June at St John’s Innovation Centre. This is a panel discussion with Tom Wrenn (ECI Partners), Chris Hodges (Business Growth Fund) & Jason Smithers (HSBC).

A panel of experts will discuss the options available to CFOs/FDs looking at raising capital to facilitate growth, and how to take advantage of economic and market conditions. This is an invitation-only event for CFOs/FDs of high-growth companies to meet and share ideas with their peers in a very relaxed environment. The panel discussion will be followed by an informal BBQ, drinks and networking.

The panel

Chris Hodges is an Investment Director for Business Growth Fund, providing long term equity investments of £2m - £10m for ambitious fast-growing SMEs. Chris is responsible for originating and transacting growth capital investment opportunities in London and the South East. His experience includes venture capital, growth capital and leveraged buy-out. He has been an investor director on the boards of several SMEs including The Mill and NP Aerospace, and has experience across a range of sectors including digital media, telecommunications, defence and security, engineering, semiconductors, and energy.

Tom Wrenn
is a Partner for ECI, one of the most successful private equity groups in the UK, specialising in buy-outs, buy-ins and development capital deals valued between £10m- £150m. Having provided finance to more than 250 companies over 3 decades, the ECI team has a wealth of experience in supporting management teams to maximise the growth potential of their businesses. Tom heads up ECI’s TMT sector team, working with investments including CliniSys, Kelvin Hughes, XLN Telecom and CarTrawler, and is on the board of CliniSys and XLN Telecom.

Jason Smithers is the newly appointed Area Commercial Director for HSBC in Cambridge. He leads a team of 12 Relationship Managers responsible for around 1000 SME customers in the area with turnover between £2m and £30m. Jason is responsible for ensuring the needs of existing customers, with both an international and domestic focus, are fully supported by the team as well as focusing on business development. HSBC has a strong appetite to fund growing businesses utilising the international brand and capabilities of the Bank. Jason has been in the banking industry for 27 years, previously working at Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and the Co-operative Bank.

Discussion will be chaired by Andrew Moore. Andrew is a Partner and Head of the Finance & Operations Practice at Bailey Fisher Executive Search, with 15 years’ experience in senior finance & operations recruitment. Recent completions include CFO for a VC backed wireless coverage business, CFO for a solar technology start-up & Director of Facilities for a FTSE 250 technology company.
