Bianca Forte reviews bioenergy in the East of England at Cleanpower 2012 on 14 June

Taking place within the biomass session of Cleanpower on June 14, this new talk by Bianca Forte of InCrops will showcase some innovative technologies being developed in the East of England, including thermochemical and biological processes for biomass conversion. The combined capabilities in biological sciences, climate change and agricultural R&D found across the InCrops partnership is perhaps unmatched in UK. To date, InCrops has identified over 145 firms in the bioenergy sector in East England.

A review of bioenergy in the East of England

Bianca Forte, Business Innovation Manager, InCrops Enterprise Hub

The InCrops Enterprise Hub is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The aim of the InCrops project is to accelerate the development, commercialisation and adoption of new bio-based products, processes and services.

Bianca Forte's key responsibility is to assist companies seeking to develop or commercialise new bioenergy technologies and companies looking to adopt sustainable solutions for their energy challenges. Since the launch of the project in 2008 InCrops has helped over 270 regional companies with technology reviews, funding overviews, market assessments, supply chain development and environmental strategies.

This presentation will give an overview of the sector in the region and highlight some projects supported. The InCrops Enterprise Hub is a partnership of thirteen organisations from academia and industry and, where clients needed scientific support for the development or adoption of new bio-based technologies or products, InCrops has introduced them to academic partners and supported the development of applications for project funding. InCrops submitted a variety of applications totalling over £350,000 net in the last 12 months.

This presentation will showcase some innovative technologies being developed in the East of England, including thermochemical and biological processes for biomass conversion. The combined capabilities in biological sciences, climate change and agricultural R&D found across the InCrops partnership is probably unrivalled in the UK.

Bianca also works with academic partners to attract EU and UK funding for projects aimed at addressing the barriers for the commercialisation of new technologies. The presentation will highlight the expertise available across the InCrops partnership that might be of relevance to companies involved with the development or adoption of bioenergy technologies. Finally, concerns over security of energy supply and climate change are leading to the expansion and diversification of the renewable energy sector worldwide. The East of England world-class research institutes and innovative companies can make a significant contribution to the development of a low carbon bioenergy industry. To help the East of England capitalise on global markets for the derivatives of alternative and non-food crops, InCrops promotes cross-border supply chain developments. Bianca will highlight some key international opportunities.
