The charity writes:
Less than six months after it opened its Cambridge store, Big Yellow Self Storage has started helping Arthur Rank Hospice. It is providing 250 sq ft of free space for donations while we prepare to open our new facility at Shelford Bottom, Cambridge.
The Charity is working with local businesses to acquire second-hand office equipment and furniture, which will be used in our new hospice home once it opens. To date, donations have been so successful that Big Yellow has kindly increased the storage size it originally donated by a further 100 sq ft, after the furniture kept flooding in.
With the help of local donations, including the space at Big Yellow Self Storage, Arthur Rank Hospice has been able to keep costs down and focus on finishing the new Hospice itself, which is due to open at the end of this year.
Drew Dempsey, Store Manager at Big Yellow Self Storage in Cambridge, says: “We’re new to the Cambridge community but we are keen to start forging relationships and are looking at how we can support the local area. When we heard about the work Arthur Rank Hospice does, we recognised the assistance we could offer, and it’s fantastic to see how much support other local businesses are lending, too. We want to help raise the profile of this worthy cause, as well as doing everything we can to support them.”
Donna Talbot, Director of Fundraising & Communications at the hospice, adds: “We are so very grateful to Drew and the team at Big Yellow for supporting us in this way. Our community have been tremendously generous in helping us to raise more than £8.2 million of the £10.5 million needed to complete the new hospice, and the build is progressing amazingly well. As a charity we recognise the need to make every penny count so we have also been working hard to save money where we can. Donated furniture which can be used in our non-patient facing areas is one of the ways in which we have been able to achieve this: if we are unable to use the furniture in the hospice itself, we can send it to our wonderful charity shop on Mill Road, which specialises in pre-loved furniture and homewares. From here we sell the goods to the public or local businesses and are able to raise further funds.”
