The financial value of the acquisition was not disclosed. However, Aldeburgh Music has received a £2m Arts Council grant to purchase the Victorian site which has been in the hands of the Gooderham family since 1965.
The corporate transaction, led by Nick Burt, represents a successful exit for the family having taken the Victorian buildings on site from abandonment to thriving redeveloped site with music, retail, pub and residential buildings. Assistance on the deal was provided on a range of legal services – corporate, property litigation and employment - by Adam Murphy, Deborah Marshall, Natalie Biggs, Charlotte Wormstone, Nick Pickersgill and Katie Harris-Wright.
Johnny Gooderham, son of George Gooderham who originally purchased the site commented: “Birketts has provided legal advice to my family for many years. Throughout that time we have received exceptional levels of service and advice across a range of services.”
