The move brings together specialist teams which can help clients resolve disputes related to:
- property
- construction
- commercial, corporate, banking and finance
- insolvency, fraud and asset recovery, professional negligence, administrative law and intellectual property
- debt recovery
- shipping, marine insurance and international trade
- regulatory and corporate defence; and
- insurance and reinsurance (following Birketts’ merger with EC3 Legal on 30 April).
The Litigation division will also liaise closely with those handling disputes in the firm’s Family and Employment teams (which sit within the Private Client Advisory and Corporate divisions respectively).
The new division will be headed by Alex Davey (pictured), commended by the Legal 500 for his understanding of Admiralty law and his specialist knowledge of shipping, transport, commercial dispute resolution and international trade work. Alex also sits on the Birketts’ Partnership Board.
Alex Davey commented: “This is a great step forward for the firm. We have so many talented people with specialist knowledge, working hard for our clients. Together we will be more than the sum of our parts. It will give clients direct access to a team, which understands the legal and commercial pressures faced by individuals and businesses, and which is skilled at dealing with complex issues quickly and efficiently.”
Jonathan Agar, CEO concluded: “We are delighted to announce details of our new Litigation division. This is yet another example of Birketts’ approach to client service – we are always finding ways to improve our processes for the benefit of our patrons. As we establish our presence in London, the formation of the Litigation division proves a particularly timely addition to Birketts’ full service offering and we have no doubt that it will yield positive results for staff and clients alike.”
