Birketts’ Employment Conference is a success

There were impressive numbers in attendance for the Birketts Employment Law Conference at the Rowley Conference Centre in Newmarket this week. Over 200 delegates attended the day, with a good mix of Eastern region employers and regional leaders keen to find out about the latest developments in employment law and get tips on how to boost employee engagement.

This event has become a must-attend session for local companies and industry heavyweights to discuss ideas, meet like-minded individuals and discuss the finer details of boosting business growth. With a focus on employee engagement and retention, the conference includes practical best practice examples which are invaluable for businesses looking to develop their workplace culture.

As well as the opportunity to network, there was a fantastic line up of speakers including award-winning keynote presenter Mark Robb whose talk ‘How to lead, motivate and engage’ which focused on recruitment and people development strategies, proved to be extremely thought provoking and informative. Proceedings were recorded by illustrator Rebecca Osborne, who produced a full colour mural in real time to capture the flow of discussion as it unfolded.

In the afternoon, delegates had the opportunity to choose various break-out sessions where they could ask questions of the region’s leading lawyers. Attendees were able to find out more about employee incentives, collective consultation, workplace investigations and immigration as well as gathering tips on how to engage the next generation of employees in an ever-evolving workplace.

Feedback was extremely positive ranging from "excellent conference… the presentations and sessions were fantastically structured and delivered. Great day - thank you" (Sophie Chalten, CHP), to “thoroughly engaging and informative – thank you" (Hayley Sampson, Carter Accommodation Limited).

Jeanette Wheeler, Partner and Head of Employment at Birketts commented: “Birketts employment law conference represents a unique opportunity to bring together local businesses and open up challenging and informative discussions in a friendly and supportive environment. By focusing in on people strategy, and offering practical ideas for engaging with a new generation of employees, Birketts were delighted to be able to share the benefit of their specialist knowledge, and support the economic growth of the Eastern region."

She continued: "This conference encapsulates the best of everything the business community has to offer. Whichever Government we have in place in the coming year there are very significant changes on the horizon to employee rights and the workplace is ever evolving. Employers need to keep an eye on what’s changing and we are well placed to support and update our clients in these challenging times. Look out for our Annual Employment Law Updates next year. We were also pleased to trail the launch of Best Employers Eastern Region 2020 and galvanise more employers to drive their employee engagement and sign up for the Best Employers’ survey.”
