Birketts supports 'Walking With The Wounded'

Birketts, the award-winning, top 100 law firm based in the East of England, has announced that it has entered eight teams into this year’s 'Walking With The Wounded’ Cumbrian Challenge.

The Cumbrian Challenge 2015, now in its third year, will take place in the Lake District on Saturday 16 May 2015.

The challenge comprises two circular routes from Grasmere, catering for varying levels of physical fitness and determination. The Tough – a 20km hike, 1,300m of altitude gain; and The Tougher – 29km hike, 1,800m of altitude gain. Each team of four will compete against inspirational wounded servicemen and women over the stunning peaks of the Lake District.

Walking With The Wounded was established in 2010 to raise funds for the re-education and re-training of wounded servicemen and women to help them find a career, so that they can support themselves and re-build a life in the civilian work place.

Jonathan Agar, chief executive officer at Birketts, whose team is walking ‘The Tough’ course commented: “The aim of this event is to support up to 200 wounded veterans back into employment. I'm delighted to say that the partners and staff across all four of our offices are fully committed to Walking With The Wounded and we've entered eight teams.”

Nigel Farthing, senior partner and sponsor of the CSR committee at Birketts, who is also walking ‘The Tough’ course added: “It’s particularly pleasing that colleagues at all levels are supporting this fantastic challenge. A special thank you to everyone who is competing against our inspirational wounded servicemen and women but also to everyone who is helping to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.”

Birketts recently received an award for its corporate social responsibility work at the prestigious Pride of Essex Awards.
