Botanic House art is fitting tribute to artist who loved to visit Botanic Garden

Three pictures by a highly regarded artist who loved to visit the Botanic Garden in Cambridge have gone on display at neighbouring Botanic House, home to major UK law firm Mills & Reeve.

Trevor Shearer, a highly regarded art tutor at The University of Arts London at Central Saint Martins and prior to this at Byam Shaw School of Art, was a frequent visitor to the Botanic Garden and would often bring his mother Ella with him.

Following Trevor’s death earlier this year, his family approached Mills & Reeve to ask if his art could go on display at Botanic House in tribute to him. Three large prints, entitled Black Grey White (2009), now feature prominently in the ground floor reception area.

Neil Shearer, Trevor’s brother, said: “In recent years Trevor would often visit me and our mother Ella in Cambridge and he would always want to walk around the Botanic Garden which was his favourite place in the city. He also admired the architecture of Botanic House so it is therefore very appropriate that his work is now on display here.

"Along with being highly skilled as a painter and maker of objects, Trevor worked experimentally with video, animation and sound. Crossovers between these different ways of making art were central to his very creative life. All the family  would like to acknowledge the kind support of Mills & Reeve in enabling this work to go on display at Botanic House.”

Further examples of Trevor's work will be on display at an exhibition in London during October and November 2013 at the Large Glass gallery.
