Firewalking is the practice of walking barefoot on hot embers and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is offering the experience for the first time in its history at the Lion and Lamb pub in Milton on Friday, 15 September.
The event will be led by experts from UK Firewalk, who will explain the science behind what they do. No previous experience or minimum fitness level is required.
Family, friends and colleagues who sponsor those taking part will be invited to cheer them on as they listen to live jazz by the Alley Cats and enjoy a drink. There will also be a hog roast on the evening.
Polly West, EACH Cambridgeshire Community Fundraiser, said: “This will be the first firewalk we’ve done as a charity and we’re really looking forward to turning up the heat on our fundraising.
“All the proceeds raised will help us continue to care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across the region and support their families.”
EACH has three hospices, including one just round the corner from the Lion and Lamb in Milton, and also delivers its service in the community at family homes and hospitals.
Registration for the firewalk is £22.50 until 5pm on 31 July and £25 thereafter. The fee includes a hog roast or vegetarian alternative. Entrants must be at least 14 and are expected to raise a minimum £100 in sponsorship.
At the end of the evening, all firewalkers will be presented with a personalised certificate.
Registration is open at www.each.org.uk/firewalk. For more information email cambs@each.org.uk or call 01223 205918.
