Business as usual for Red Hat following acquisition by IBM

IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat was completed on 9th July 2019, positioning IBM as the leading hybrid cloud provider and extending Red Hat’s open source innovation to a broader range of clients.

Both parties have reaffirmed the ‘business as usual’ message. IBM will maintain Red Hat’s headquarters in Raleigh, and its facilities, brands and practices, with Red Hat operating as a distinct unit within IBM – its unwavering commitment to open source will remain unchanged.

So from Red Hat’s perspective, what does business as usual look like?

Tier 2, the first Red Hat Premier Middleware Partner in the UK & Ireland, recently attended the Red Hat EMEA partner conference in Prague, and here are a few highlights….

  •   What’s New in OpenShift? – some major changes with the release of OpenShift 4 including improved installation, CRI-O and Operators;
  •   Who needs Oracle? – moving to OpenJDK with the announcement that Oracle JDK is no longer free;
  •   Get Quarked! – Red Hat launches Quarkus, a low-footprint, highly-performant Java framework optimised for use on Kubernetes;
  •   Ansible’s the Answer, Bill – taking the time and pain away from complex deployments with automation using Ansible;
  •   Fuse for the Masses – Red Hat’s new Fuse Online iPaaS solution, for drag-and-drop integration.
