Cambridge attorneys recognised as top international patent practitioners

Tim Andrews, Patent Attorney and Marks & Clerk Cambridge Office Managing Partner, and Philip Martin, Patent Attorney and Partner in Marks & Clerk’s Cambridge office, have been recommended in Intellectual Asset Management’s annual Patent 1000 rankings, which lists the ‘world’s leading patent practitioners’. Marks & Clerk LLP and Marks & Clerk Solicitors LLP, both of which have an office in Cambridge, both also ranked highly in the directory.

The annual guide to the sector, now in its second year, provides rankings for patent attorney and solicitor firms as well as special mentions for outstanding individual practitioners.

According to the guide: “Supreme drafter Philip Martin ‘is perhaps the most intelligent attorney out there – he really understands people’s inventions and turns out solid patents’. Cambridge-based Tim Andrews focuses on organic chemistry and pharmaceuticals; when prosecuting and opposing patents before the EPO, he is a ‘safe pair of hands that can achieve worthwhile results’.”

On Marks & Clerk LLP Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, it said: “Marks & Clerk continues to dominate the market and is growing even further in stature thanks to serious domestic and international investment. It files an astronomically high number of patents annually, helped in no small part by its immense global network, and backs up this quantity with real quality. ‘Marks & Clerk raises the bar both in the UK and across the continent – its range of services means it really can cater to any client’s needs.’”

Tim Andrews, Cambridge Office Managing Partner at Marks & Clerk, commented: “This year’s guide provides another endorsement of Marks & Clerk Cambridge’s standing as the leading firm of patent and trade mark attorneys in the city. Working with local, national and global clients, our attorneys continue to deliver an unmatched breadth and depth of service across the life sciences, chemistry, electronics, software and mechanical engineering, which has been recognised in these pleasing results.

“In particular, the recognition of two Cambridge attorneys demonstrates the quality of service we deliver. Philip Martin is an outstanding patent attorney and a genuine ‘go-to’ in the city for anything tech-related. His flourishing practice is focused on local companies and includes several Cambridge success stories, as well established blue chip companies, and his expertise in matters relating to the electronics, software and telecoms fields give real substance to his industry-wide reputation for technical and legal expertise combined with sagacious commercial judgment.”
