Cambridge lecturer ready to ruck against England

An Anglia Ruskin University lecturer is ready to take on England after being selected in the Scotland squad for the opening match of the Six Nations championships tonight (Friday).

Dr Anna Stodter, 29, a lecturer in Sports Coaching and Physical Education at Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus, has been named among the substitutes for the opening match of the championships at the Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld, at 6pm.

Dr Stodter, from Aboyne, studied psychology at Edinburgh University and gained her PhD in Coach Learning at Loughborough University. She coached the Cambridge University Varsity Team to victory in the first ever women’s varsity match at Twickenham.

Dr Stodter, who plays Back Row for Saracens, made her international debut in the Six Nations in 2014, but injury has restricted her to three caps.

She said: “I am excited and honoured to make it into the Scotland Six Nations squad after almost a year and a half out through injury. This year the atmosphere in the squad has been the most positive I've ever experienced, no doubt helped by the extended periods of time we have spent together at various training camps, which have been so valuable for working on different aspects of the game in depth, as well as really enjoyable!

“For me, getting to this point has involved a lot of hard work and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my colleagues at Anglia Ruskin University, who have allowed me to take time off work to attend camps and fit my training around my work.

“We are all looking forward to finally getting our Six Nations campaign started on home turf, and I can’t wait to share a pitch with such a talented group of players. Hopefully this is just the start with great things to come for Scotland Women in the future!”
