Carry on learning and boost your career

Learning is always a good thing! Look into upcoming courses from Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration to see how you can improve your skills and boost your career prospects.

Courses coming up in the next few weeks include:

Project Management for Non Project Managers on Wednesday 6 July, kindly hosted by Emmanuel College (St Andrews Street, Cambridge CB2 3AP), is a programme intended for people who don’t normally manage projects.

There are two phases to any project: Thinking It Through and Making Things Happen. This one day programme is designed to look at the 'thinking it through' phase with the tools and techniques available to project managers and the 'making things happen' through leading others. Its aim is to equip participants with the knowledge, skill and understanding of how to manage their projects more successfully.

Introduction to Negotiation Skills on Tuesday 12 July (a host venue is required) is designed for anyone involved in everyday negotiations. This one day course will help you understand what you can do to be more effective and achieve an even better result - where small wins can have a big impact on the bottom line - while still maintaining good client relationships.  It will benefit anyone who is involved in persuading others in the business of resource allocation, sales and complaint handing, and making operational requests of others.

Transition to Management on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 July, kindly hosted by Barclays at its newly opened Eagle Lab (28 Chesterton Road, Cambridge CB4 3AZ) is intended for those new to management; those with about six months' experience as a manager; high potentials who look to be promoted soon; or technical and project leads who would like to ‘up skill’ on their management techniques.

The first line manager role is unique in organisations as this person is the one level who manages non-managers. This brings its own set of hurdles to overcome, and for people new to managing others there is a lot to learn.  Being a new manager can be tough; and a practical toolkit of best practice dos and don’ts will really help new managers avoid mistakes, and feel more equipped to cope in the early days.
