Carter Jonas rural team braves cold to help CambridgePPF

A team from Carter Jonas kicked January off in virtuous style with a sub-zero volunteering session for local charity Cambridge Past Present & Future (CambridgePPF) at the edge of its Coton Countryside Reserve – located just west of the city.

Five individuals from the property company’s rural team braved arctic conditions in mid January and spent the day helping CambridgePPF rangers clear a patch of overgrown meadow.

Despite the freezing conditions the team managed to uncover a substantial area of land, which CambridgePPF plans to return to grazed meadow as part of its ongoing work to enhance diverse wild habitats.

Tim Jones, head of rural at Carter Jonas, said: “CambridgePPF is a long-standing and much-cherished client of our Cambridge office. While we’ve been advising and working with them for many years on property and land matters across a range of their interests in and around Cambridge, getting out in the field with a client – whether literally or metaphorically – always adds another dimension to understanding their business.”

Jon Gibbs, Head Ranger at CambridgePPF said: “We are a small charity with two very large green spaces to maintain for public use plus a number of other historic properties. Our ranger team does a fantastic job but there is always a long list of tasks to work through, so extra hands are appreciated. The Carter Jonas team were fantastic working solidly despite the weather, which was bone chilling. There is no doubt in my mind that they’d earned the pub visit we’d collectively arranged for after the session!”

CambridgePPF offers a range of volunteering opportunities for individuals, groups and local companies. If you’d like a taster of what’s involved, why not head to the charity’s Coton Countryside Reserve on Saturday 26 January or Saturday 16 February to take part in a range of conservation tasks. From 10:30am to 4:00pm on both days you’ll be able to help the ranger team carry out practical work. Bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.
