The four students from Anglia Ruskin University’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School won through to this Friday’s final after a strong showing against 50 other teams in a semi-final held at the University of Bristol.
Friday’s final takes place at IBM’s London headquarters, and will see the Anglia Ruskin students compete against teams from the University of Reading, Lancaster University, London Metropolitan University, Newcastle University, City Cass Business School, University of Bristol, University of Sheffield, and two teams from University College London.
Anglia Ruskin’s Chelmsford team was in first place after the morning session of their semi-final, which consisted of four different tests, and finished fifth overall following the afternoon session which involved producing a one-minute elevator pitch.
Dr Robin Gowers, Senior Lecturer in Economics at Anglia Ruskin University, said: “Having been so close to reaching the final last year, I can say that this performance by the Chelmsford team was certainly no fluke. And to achieve it against teams from such a large number of leading UK universities shows the quality of students that we have here.
“Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge team was unlucky to miss out on a place in the final and ended in a very credible 14th place. It’s fantastic that the Entrepreneurial University of the Year is once again showing what it can do!”
The four finalists from Anglia Ruskin are Taylor Hughes (a BSc Business Management student), and Nathaniel Bubu, Patrick Mudzengi and Vicnan Kumar (all BSc Accounting and Finance students). Anglia Ruskin last won the competition in 2012, coming out on top against 67 other universities.
