The Chinese group was led by Wang Dinghua, Director General of the Teacher Administration Department at the Ministry of Education in Beijing, and Guo Lei, Director of the National Academy of Education Administration.
The topics of enterprise and entrepreneurship are playing an increasingly prominent role in the curricula of Chinese universities, particularly in relation to employability and skills training.
During the visit to Anglia Ruskin’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School, the Chinese academics heard Dr Lianne Taylor and Chris Kerry outline the importance of bridging the divide between entrepreneurship theory and practice, and discuss effective ways of embedding enterprise and innovation into the curriculum.
The delegation was formally welcomed by Professor Gary Packham, Dean of the Lord Ashcroft International Business School. Professor Packham said: “Anglia Ruskin was named Entrepreneurial University of the Year in the 2014 Times Higher Education Awards thanks in part because we promote entrepreneurship throughout the university, to all staff as well as students.
“But of course the entrepreneurial spirit is particularly strong in the Lord Ashcroft International Business School, where we’re justifiably proud of producing entrepreneurial graduates as well as graduate entrepreneurs.
“Entrepreneurship needs to be understood in a global context and it is wonderful to be able to lead this debate and share good practice with colleagues from a range of Chinese universities.”
In addition to winning the Times Higher Education’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year award in 2014, Anglia Ruskin was named as one of the top 350 institutions in the world in this year’s Times Higher World University Rankings and is shortlisted for the Duke of York Award for University Entrepreneurship at the 2016 Lloyds Bank National Business Awards, which will be announced on 15 November.
