The colleagues will put their best foot forward at the event which has a special place in the community’s heart, with many walkers raising funds for the Hospice while remembering and celebrating someone they love.
Earlier this month, five staff members from Conference Cambridge - which is the official free venue-finding service for Cambridge’s University, its colleges, hotels & other unique properties - made a short visit to Arthur Rank Hospice’s current home on Mill Road in Cambridge, to discover more about the Hospice’s vast range of services and holistic approach to care.
Laura Worsley, Events Executive, comments: “When considering which charity to support for 2016, we wanted a local organisation with which people had a relationship. Our Managing Bursar, Jennifer Brook is a Trustee and within our team as a whole Arthur Rank Hospice is very close to our hearts. We all know someone who has needed and benefited from its wonderful care.”
Donna Talbot, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, explains the difference such corporate support makes: “It would be impossible for us to keep raising the £2 million required annually to provide essential care for those living with a life-limiting illness in Cambridgeshire, were it not for supporters like this working alongside the Charity in a multitude of ways to help us both strategically and practically. We are so pleased that Conference Cambridge will be waving their flag alongside us at Star Shine Stroll memory walk on 14 May and we hope other Cambridgeshire based companies will follow their lead: choose us as their charity for the year; put forward a team for an event like Star Shine Stroll; or all of the above!”
As well as taking part in the event, Conference Cambridge will apply their specialist knowledge to help the Charity across the year by sourcing venues for meetings and activities, as well as raising further funds through quiz evenings and a client event. Staff will additionally volunteer where support is needed, for example by marshalling at events or supporting bucket collections. The Charity is encouraging other teams to follow Conference Cambridge’s example and unite with colleagues, family and friends to form teams prepared to stroll the 6.5 or 10 mile route starting at dusk. Walkers will take in Cambridge’s historical buildings and beautiful countryside and will be a unique sight to behold, dressed to ‘shine and sparkle’ as they wind back to the start and finish point of Shelford Rugby Club just before midnight.
