Operating as a social enterprise, Sustainability East supports public, private and third sector organisations in addressing the challenges and capitalising on the opportunities of climate change and sustainability. For the past 15 years, the team has been a dynamic driving force behind the East of England’s sustainability agenda.
John Devall, Chairman of the Board, Sustainability East said: “Sustainability East was formed through the merger of the East of England Sustainable Development Round Table and the Climate Change Partnership for the East of England. With its roots in the public sector, the team provides access to networks and knowledge that may otherwise be difficult for commercial organisations to gain. Alison is a successful business leader, who understands commercial imperatives and how to align these with the challenges and opportunities of the changing environment. Her involvement with Sustainability East has already proved extremely useful."
Alison joins an experienced board of Directors headed by John Devall, Water Director at Northumbrian Water. The Board also comprises John Giles, Executive Coordination Manager at the Environment Agency, Dr Aled Jones Director of the Global Sustainability Institute, Cecilia Tredget Managing Director of the East of England Local Government Association, Matthew Hullis Head of Environment Strategy at Suffolk County Council and Dr Chrissie Pepper, Executive Director at Sustainability East. Andrew Thurley, Director at Pricewaterhouse Coopers is a strategic advisor to the Board.
The Sustainability East team utilises its cross-sector thematic networks and a range of collaborative programmes, facilitated activities and tools, to challenge conventional thinking and help organisations build and deliver tailored and efficient strategies for sustainable business growth and risk mitigation in a changing climate and environment.
In July, Sustainability East hosted the annual Alliance for Sustainable development Leaders’ Dinner at King’s College, Cambridge. The forum was attended by 30 of the regions key thought leaders from private, public and third sector organisations, chaired by Dr Aled Jones, Director of the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin University and Director of Sustainability East.
Alison Taylor commented: “The work of Sustainability East is truly inspiring and the energy and drive that the team demonstrates in all that it does is quite humbling. There are many networks and groups that do a lot of talking about sustainability and climate change but none that I have come across that have a focus on and commitment to delivering real results in the way that Sustainability East does. I’m very proud to be involved and look forward to working in collaboration with major companies across the East of England to make our region a showcase of sustainable development from which all stakeholders benefit.”
