Courses focus on project management skills

Project management is an essential part of many different job roles, but not everyone is equipped to run projects successfully. One-day courses coming up soon from Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration will help those who are new to, or unfamiliar with project management, while a more comprehensive two-day session is aimed at managers who already lead teams and projects.

Project Management for Non Project Managers on Wednesday 25 April 2018, kindly hosted by Barclays Eagle Labs (7-8 Clifton Court, Cherry Hinton Road, CB1 7BN) aims to equip participants with the knowledge, skill and understanding of how to manage their projects more successfully.

Highlighting the fact that there are two phases to any project: Thinking It Through and Making Things Happen, this programme is designed to look at the 'thinking it through' phase, with the tools and techniques available to project managers and the 'making things happen' through leading others.

Introduction to Project Management the following day, Thursday 26 April 2018 at the same venue - Barclays Eagle Labs (7-8 Clifton Court, Cherry Hinton Road, CB1 7BN) - is a one-day workshop aimed at people who want to understand the fundamental principles of project working, typically team members with some elements of project management in their day-to-day role or those who regularly participate in project teams. It assumes little previous project management knowledge.

The syllabus covers an introduction to project management, project life cycles, initiating and identifying the scope of a project, defining needs of stakeholders, developing a business case, creating a project and communications plan and establishing key success factors.

Project Management & Leadership, again at Barclays Eagle Labs (7-8 Clifton Court, Cherry Hinton Road, CB1 7BN), takes place on Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 May 2018. This two day workshop for managers who lead teams and projects and who already have some basic knowledge and understanding of the workings of projects.

The content assumes that delegates have some experience of project working and that they are responsible for running at least one project. The focus will be on the leadership aspects of project working, while still covering tools and techniques.

The workshop will:

  •     introduce delegates to the skills, tools and challenges of leading a successful project
  •     provide delegates with an opportunity to practise leadership skills and tools
  •     enable delegates to identify personal learning and prepare a personal development plan.
