Richard said: ‘I was attracted to CPL because of its excellent reputation for producing quality editorial and design – in both print and digital formats. This is a great base from which to grow the commercial side of our business and help our clients fund, or at least offset, some of the costs associated with producing and developing their print and online publications.’
Richard is already acting as sales agent for two major clients, HMRC’s employee publication Pulse, and Women & Golf magazine. He said: ‘I will be looking for opportunities to grow CPL’s advertising sales business, whether by offering a sales-only service or as part of a wider publishing contract.’
CPL managing director Mike Sewell said: ‘Richard brings a fantastic track record of success and hands-on achievement to this role. As one of the UK’s most experienced media sales professionals, he understands how membership and corporate bodies work, and the best ways to build long-term business, whether via print publications, enewsletters, websites, mobile publishing or events. This development not only means we can help our customers maximise their revenues from advertising sales and sponsorship, but it also increases the breadth of strategic guidance and consultancy that we can offer.’
Richard’s advertising sales career began at Cambridge-based Science magazine before he joined Mongoose Media in London, initially as a sales manager. He rose to become sales director and then managing director of Mongoose and Ten Alps Media following the 2009 merger with Ten Alps Publishing, where he worked with major clients including the Camping and Caravanning Club, Mercedes, BT, Newsweek and the Association of Optometrists. Since leaving Ten Alps in April 2011, he has been working on senior short-term strategic sales projects at Bauer and the Henley Media Group.
