Crypto-miners target tech firm which fights back with AI

Darktrace, the world’s leading cyber AI company, has today announced that Aptean, an international software company, has deployed Darktrace’s cyber AI to detect and autonomously respond to subtle and sophisticated threats within its cloud and virtual environments.

Securing disparate cloud environments – from Microsoft Azure and AWS, to OneDrive and Office 365 – was a priority for Aptean and key driver for the deal with Darktrace. As a rapidly growing company with a global employee base, Aptean needed to protect against both human-factor security incidents and fast-moving external attacks.

Within minutes of deploying Darktrace AI, the technology quickly identified a number of emerging threats – all of which had been missed by conventional security tools. This included crypto-mining malware and stealthy, slow-moving threats.

Jason Barr, CISO at Aptean, said: “As a SaaS provider ourselves, we know the importance of securing our cloud services against advanced attacks. Conventional cloud security tools simply can’t keep up as threats evolve in sophistication and stealth. Darktrace AI adapts while on the job, illuminating our network and cloud infrastructure in real time, and allowing us to defend the cloud with confidence. Darktrace is the single most valuable security tool my team uses today.”
