Eagle Genomics launches Eaglecore™ to improve bioinformatics research

Eagle Genomics, a bioinformatics software and services company propelling new opportunities in large scale omics data and its application to real world problems in health and wellness, food and environmental sectors, has launched Eaglecore™, a software platform to improve bioinformatics research.

The benefits of Eaglecore are significant, accelerating the opportunities offered by genomics and new data generation technologies, allowing researchers to better identify and locate their own scientific data, share it with colleagues and speed up their analysis. Through this accelerated and improved analysis, researchers are better able to understand their data, providing new insights, which in turn could lead to new solutions in healthcare and personal hygiene, food production and crop development, water cleaning and green energy.

Eaglecore is a secure, cloud-based, integrated platform for the quick data capture of new experiments and legacy data import, allowing all data to be linked together in one place. Researchers use their web browser to annotate a broad range of their own R&D data with external metadata, describing its provenance and content using an established experimentalist-based hierarchical data model (ISA). Curated data can then be easily exported for further analysis and shared amongst colleagues and external collaborators. The metadata can be used to mine for previously unknown connections between existing datasets in the archives and to identify new hypotheses, keeping track of an organisation’s entire data assets as individual researchers come and go. In addition, Eaglecore allows researchers to monitor and track their data throughout its lifecycle and ensure it is cross referenced with the most relevant external data sources and techniques.

Eaglecore is based on established open standards and offers flexibility and scalability so that it can manage the next generation of assay technologies and any type of data. Ontology support ensures consistency between different users and experiments.

Eagle Genomics recently announced that Eaglecore is being trialed by Genomics England, a company funded by the UK Department of Health which supports the efforts to map 100,000 whole genomes of NHS patients with cancer or rare diseases by 2017. Eaglecore will be used for clinical genomics analysis and annotation, meeting the demand for improved NGS technology in the healthcare sector.

Dr Abel Ureta-Vidal, CEO of Eagle said: “Eaglecore has tremendous potential to change the way bioinformatics research is done. Not only can it improve the research itself, it also makes managing the data much easier, while enabling users to collaborate more easily with external partners. Our customers have extremely complex research programmes and Eaglecore allows for a more intelligent method of storing and managing data. Companies and organisations adopting Eaglecore can use the platform to significantly enhance their ability to locate and share their data now and in the long term without the risk of institutional memory loss, and also accelerate the data analysis, improving research outcomes.”
