Work has already begun to transfer staff and equipment into the new building, which will be home to TWI’s engineering, test, and welder training operations. The building, with four overhead cranes, provides laboratory space of 6400 square metres and will allow the company to extend research and development activities for its Industrial Member companies with a greater and more advanced range of equipment and increased capacity for large-scale testing.
TWI is adding three new buildings to its existing facilities at Granta Park. Enabled through UK Regional Growth Funding, support from the Higher Education Funding Council for England and driven by a TWI-led initiative to link academic excellence with industry research, a key feature of the expansion project will be the National Structural Integrity Research Centre. This hub of postgraduate education will welcome 530 students in its first ten years of operation, while providing a major boost to high-level engineering and testing expertise.
All buildings in the site expansion project will be signed over to TWI by March 2015.
