Scores of bargain hunters turned out for the launch at 10am today, keen to get their hands on items of clothing donated to EACH by its Ambassador and singing sensation Ed Sheeran.

Lauren Seager, 13, was queuing from 8.30am. She was due to visit relative and Cherry Hinton resident Penny Haggarty for the Easter weekend, but came down from Stirling in Scotland a day early to browse the Ed items on offer.

Penny said: “Ed Sheeran’s been very, very nice [donating his clothes]. I thought it was absolutely amazing and I hope the shop does really well in Cherry Hinton.”

The new outlet, at the former Lloyds bank premises in High Street, is EACH’s third in Cambridgeshire and takes its total number of shops across the region to 23.

Nicky, who lives in Cambridge, said: “We are so lucky to have EACH close by and I’m thrilled the new EACH store is so close to where I live.

“I hope all the local residents visit the store, either shopping or donating items to help support the most amazing service we have for life-threatened children here in Cambridgeshire.”

Cllr Benstead said: “What a great morning this has been for the opening of this shop here in Cherry Hinton – it’s absolutely rammed! It’s a brilliant facility in a vibrant high street and I’m sure it’ll do very well. I’m really pleased to be here.”

The shop will offer the same range of high-quality goods customers of other EACH shops are used to, helping to fund the care and support of children and young people with life-threatening conditions and their families.

Sarah Throssell, EACH Retail Area Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to have opened our new shop in Cherry Hinton and really look forward to becoming part of the community. The till has been ringing since we opened the doors, with shoppers keen to pick up a piece of Ed’s clothing – we took £925 in the first hour!

“A big thank you to Cllr Benstead and Nicky for their parts in making today’s opening such a success, and also to Ed for his continued support of EACH.”

Those interested in buying an item of Ed’s clothing but who were unable to make today’s opening can log on to EACH’s eBay store via www.each.org.uk/ed-sheeran-auction, on which additional items will be up for auction until Sunday, 23rd April.

Sarah continued: “We’re confident the people of Cherry Hinton will now get behind our shop and help us continue our retail success. Please do get in touch if you have good quality items to donate or a few spare hours to volunteer.”

EACH is after donations of the following clean and good-quality goods to sell: clothing, bric-a-brac, modern paperbacks, toys, jewellery, DVDs/CDs, household linens, retro and vintage clothes and small electrical items.

The charity also needs donations of good-quality furniture and can collect it free of charge if you are unable to transport it yourself. You can contact its Retail Distribution Centre on 01842 821620 for more information.

To put into context the difference just a small donation to the shop can make to the vital work EACH does, here are some examples of what your donation could pay for:

-           A top, skirt or pair of trousers worth £5 could pay for art supplies for a session of art therapy

-           A tea set worth £10 could fund a nursing care kit

-           A nice wedding hat or jacket worth £20 could pay for a support group for siblings

-           An item of good-quality furniture or prom dress worth £35 could pay for an hour of specialist care.

If you would be interested in more information on volunteering at the new shop please give it a call on 01223 412604 or email Sarah at sarah.throssell@each.org.uk.
