Exercise challenge helps give a Break to vulnerable young people

Staff at the Cambridge office of top 50 law firm Penningtons Manches have been spending 50 minutes a day running, cycling, swimming and pursuing other physical pursuits in support of the Break charity’s 50th anniversary.

Called the ‘Penn50 Exercise Challenge’, the sponsored event was part of the charity’s ‘My Break 50’ challenge, celebrating 50 years of making life better for vulnerable children and young people across East Anglia. Challenges are set around the number 50 and the team of 15 staff at Penningtons Manches chose to exercise for 50 minutes every day for 10 days. Each team member aimed to raise at least £50, with a total of £1000 raised so far.

Break, which was chosen as Penningtons Manches Charitable Foundation’s Cambridge charity partner by the office’s charitable committee in 2018, works with young people in, or moving out of, care and also young people with disabilities.  The foundation is also partnering with Break to part-fund an apprenticeship for a young person leaving care. Partner and Chair of the Cambridge committee of the foundation Sarah Coates commented: “Break is a fantastic organisation and the team here is very proud to partner with them in their mission to provide a better future for young people at risk and families in need of support.”

Penningtons Manches Charitable Foundation was established by Penningtons Manches in 2017. It supports a number of national and local organisations through charitable giving and pro bono initiatives and focuses in particular on vulnerable groups, education projects and community work.
